Upon throwing a Pocket Ball at Salem with spell protection:

Fizzle
You throw your Pocket Ball at the Magic Shop's black cat! The ball breaks open on the floor and emits a bright flash! Much to your surprise, the cat emits a wave of pure darkness! It seems that the wave of darkness completely countered the Pocket Ball, which closed instantly. Luckily your Spell Reflection reflects the Spell that got flung at you! The cat hisses as the dark magic bounces back to him!/Luckily you evaded the Spell that got flung at you with your Hallucination! When you look around, you see the cat walking away! Don't let him escape! [Continue]

Catch That Cat!
You run after the black cat and quickly find yourself in the woods. The cat stops and stares at you. You then notice his glowing collar. It seems to bristle with dark magic. That might be what protected the cat from your Pocket Ball! What to do, what to do... [I don't know!]

Upon using Holy Water to try and remove the Curse:

Catlike Reflexes
You throw your Holy Water at the cat, hoping it'll decurse whatever powers are held within its collar. Unfortunately, the cat doesn't seem to fancy the idea of you throwing bottles at it, so it quickly jumps away! Damn... that's not gonna work! [Continue]

Upon using a Light Wand charged with Remove Curse on Salem:

Remove Curse
You aim your Charged Light Wand at the Magic Shop's cat and cast the Remove Curse spell. Immediately after you cast it, the cat becomes encased in a dark bubble and slowly rises into the air. The bubble changes color from a deep black purple to a bright yellow! After about 10 seconds the bubble shatters in rays of bright light and the cat drops to the floor. Upon continuing from the Remove Curse subevent:

Salem The Cat
The cat quickly jumps to its feet, looks around with shifting eyes and finally stops to stare at you. For a moment, it seems like its eyes are actually twinkling. You are surprised when the cat breaks the silence... 'You did it! You removed the curse! I can talk! I can think! I...' 'My name is Salem and I am not really a cat. I was trapped in this form by Griselda's ancestor Beëlzebeth a long, long time ago to prevent me from fulfilling my destiny. I fear all may be lost, but you've given me a sliver of hope. Thank you, stranger. Please, take my collar. It's very old and it may still contain traces of its ancient, arcane magic.' You take off the cat's collar. 'Now I must be on my way. There's no time to lose. Thank you for giving me this chance at redemption...' [You're welcome!] Try to catch Salem!

Upon throwing the Pocket Ball a second time:

Pocket Ball, GO!
Look, Salem's story sounds all really interesting and whatnot and he's undoubtably got some epic stuff to look into, but you feel an unstoppable urge to catch him anyway. You instinctively grab your Pocket Ball and throw it at Salem, who tries to jump away! The Pocket Ball springs open with and emits a bright flash, which sucks Salem in! The Pocket Ball wiggles like crazy and, no matter how much you wait, it doesn't stop wiggling! Man, after a while you're tired of waiting and put the wiggling ball into your bag. Sweet, you caught Salem the cat! Awwww yeah! [Success!]
